Trust in online dating develops over time, but a platform can remove some avoidable uncertainty before a conversation begins. SilverSingles does this by making profile verification a condition of becoming visible to other members.
On SilverSingles, every member profile you can see has completed our required verification process. This is what we mean by 100% Verified Profiles: members are not asked to sort verified profiles from unverified ones themselves.
Verification helps confirm that the person using an account matches the photos submitted for verification. It does not verify every profile detail, relationship intention or future behavior, and SilverSingles does not conduct member background checks.
Why Profile Verification Comes First
A verification badge is less useful when members still have to decide whether an unchecked profile deserves their attention. SilverSingles applies one standard before profiles enter the member experience. This creates a clearer starting point for browsing, matching and conversation.
The purpose is not to suggest that a technical check can establish complete trust. It is to address a specific question early: does the person completing the check match the face presented in the profile photo? By handling that question before a profile becomes visible, the platform can reduce opportunities for impersonation, stolen-photo profiles and duplicate accounts.
For members, this means more attention can go toward the information that verification cannot judge: whether someone’s interests feel genuine, whether their relationship goals are compatible with yours and whether their communication remains respectful and consistent.
How Selfie Video Verification Works
The process uses a brief selfie video and the identifying photo selected for a member’s profile. It is designed to be straightforward, including for people who may not use video features often.
-
Add a clear main photo. Your face should be well lit and fully visible. If the image does not contain a suitable face, you will be asked to choose another photo.
-
Take a brief selfie video. Allow camera access, centre your face in the on-screen oval and follow the movement prompts. Coloured lights may appear, and a photosensitivity warning is shown beforehand.
-
Complete the comparison. The selfie video is compared with your profile photos. If the images are unclear or do not match closely enough, you may be asked to repeat the check or upload a clearer main photo.
In some situations, members may instead be asked to record and upload a selfie video while performing a specific pose or movement shown in an example image. Our customer support team then manually compares the submitted video with the member’s profile photos. Although the steps differ slightly, verification must still be completed before the profile can become visible or interact with other members.
The selfie video is used for verification and is not displayed on your profile. Details about how verification information is collected, processed and retained are available in the Photo Verification Informed Consent and Notice and the SilverSingles Privacy Policy. Safety Does Not Depend on One Check
Profile verification is one part of a wider set of safety measures. Fraud-prevention systems help identify suspicious or duplicate accounts. Profile and content reviews help identify material that may require further attention. Member reports add context that automated systems may not be able to recognize on their own.
If a profile, message or interaction concerns you, SilverSingles gives you several ways to respond:
-
Use Send Feedback to contact Customer Support and explain the concern.
-
Select Report from the member’s profile when you suspect misleading, inappropriate or unsafe activity.
-
Select Hide (Block) This Member when you want to end contact. You will no longer see or be able to contact each other.
Reports and feedback give our team information it can review and act on when appropriate. The Hide option lets members stop unwanted contact immediately without having to continue or explain a conversation.
What Verification Cannot Replace
No verification or safety system can guarantee how another person will behave. Trust should still be built gradually through conversation and consistent actions. Pay attention when someone gives conflicting information, pressures you to move faster than feels comfortable or repeatedly ignores a boundary.
Requests for money are a serious warning sign. Never send money, gift cards or cryptocurrency to someone you have met online, and do not share banking information, passwords, identity documents or security codes. Be cautious if someone quickly asks to move conversations away from the platform or creates an urgent reason for financial help.
If you decide to meet in person, choose a public place, arrange your own transportation and tell a friend or family member where you will be. Keep your home address and other sensitive details private until you have had enough time to make an informed decision.
A Clearer Place to Begin
Verification is most useful when it supports the dating experience without dominating it. SilverSingles establishes the profile standard at the start, while members decide what happens next through conversation, judgment and time.
That leaves the first impression where it belongs: with the person’s outlook, interests, sense of humor and hopes for the future. From there, you can take your time, get to know the person behind the profile and decide whether the connection feels right for you.
